NRDC ScanUS Annual Subscription

Introduction to the National Religious Data Consortium
Scan/US Subscription System Made Available by IICM

—The Intercultural Institute for Contextual Ministry works directly with Scan/US, Inc. to provide software, databases, and support services to meet the member’s need for GIS (Geographic Information Systems), mapping software, demographics, and segmentation services.

Scan/US, Inc. is looking forward to its role of directly providing Geographic Information System (GIS) Technology to you as a National Religious Data Consortium member. The cornerstone of this GIS technology will be the Scan/US Professional Market Mapping software, databases and support services that have been commercially available for more than 15 years. Key to Scan/US, Inc.’s ability to deliver a comprehensive national Scan/US installation to the desktop of every end user in the Consortium is the specialized Subscription version of Scan/US. Let us define how the Scan/US Subscription product works and the benefits to you the user.

Just like a subscription to a magazine, the Scan/US subscription is purchased for a specific length of time, typically one year, and during that time you are continually provided with software upgrades, updated demographic data and continuous support services. Once you have purchased the subscription you can concentrate on using the Scan/US system and we make sure you are making your decisions with the most up to date technology and information. Within the final month of your subscription, when you start up Scan/US you will be receive a message that your subscription is about to expire. If the subscription is renewed, a new license file will be provided that will allow your Scan/US installation to continue functioning for another year. If the subscription is not renewed your Scan/US subscription will expire and your Scan/US installation will stop functioning.

With the subscription product you are not buying software and databases, instead you are getting a limited time license to use the most current Scan/US software and databases during the subscription period. Because you are not buying, but rather leasing your Scan/US installation for the length of the subscription, Scan/US is able to provide a fully configured Scan/US system, a comprehensive set of demographic databases for all levels of geography at a price well under the purchase price of a similarly configured Scan/US installation. This price advantage is even greater when you combine the buying power of the entire Christian religious market of the NRDC that IICM represents as defined in the agreement between IICM and Scan/US, Inc.

Specialized Datasets for Missional Ministry Direct from IICM

IICM has designed some specific datasets that facilitate missional ministry applications and partnered with Scan/US, Inc. to make these datasets available for use by the NRDC. While several datasets are being planned, the Hawaiian dataset is currently available, some will be available late in 2005, and others in the future:

1. NeoTribal CultureDentity™ 2005 Hawaiian Edition. A segmentation of the Hawaiian Islands by neotribal social identities (including both ethnogroups and sociogroups) into five major social groupings along a social identity continuum from multi-linguistic/multicultural to mono-linguistic/mono-cultural, and thirty-two segments along a socio-economic scale. All levels of geography are available from the blockgroup up.

2. A Hispanic Demographic Dataset that provides Hispanic Only numbers for each demographic variable. Is available for all levels of geography.
